In June 2022, senior Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde rebelled against Uddhav Thackeray’s leadership, citing ideological differences—especially Shiv Sena's growing closeness to Congress and NCP in the Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance.

This led to the fall of the Uddhav-led Maharashtra government. With support from BJP, Shinde became Chief Minister of Maharashtra on 30 June 2022, forming a new government.

After a long legal and political battle, the Election Commission of India in 2023 granted the “Shiv Sena” name and the traditional "Bow and Arrow" symbol to the Shinde faction, making it the official Shiv Sena in electoral records.

The Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena upholds Bal Thackeray’s Hindutva legacy, Marathi identity, and strong leadership, while closely aligning with BJP ideologies.

• Eknath Shinde – Chief Minister of Maharashtra; veteran leader from Thane with grassroots influence.

• Devendra Fadnavis (BJP) – Deputy CM and key ally in the coalition government.

• Balasahebanchi Shiv Sena – Original title used by the faction to claim Bal Thackeray’s legacy before official recognition.

The faction advocates for development-focused governance, Hindutva values, and political stability in Maharashtra.

Under Eknath Shinde’s leadership, the government focuses on:

• Infrastructure projects like coastal roads, expressways, and metro rail expansion.

• Farmer welfare – increased compensation and support schemes.

• Job creation – industrial investments and local employment push.

• Urban development – housing, slum redevelopment, and transportation upgrades.

• Balanced regional growth – focus on backward regions of Maharashtra.

The Shinde-led Sena promotes a pro-BJP governance model, aiming for faster development and reduced political instability.

While its base is still forming post-split, the Eknath Shinde faction commands strength in:

• Thane, Mumbai, Konkan, and parts of Western Maharashtra.

• Backed by a large number of sitting MLAs and MPs who defected from the Uddhav faction.

• Strong organizational support from municipal and Zilla Parishad levels.

Shiv Sena (Shinde) aims to consolidate its presence in urban, semi-urban, and rural parts of Maharashtra, supported by BJP’s state and national machinery.
